Hewitt Named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas-Marshall linebacker Neville Hewitt was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week Monday in an announcement by the league office.
Hewitt racked up a team-high 17 tackles, including two tackles for loss and a half sack in Marshall's 23-18 road win at UAB. He also thwarted a two-point conversion attempt. Hewitt led a Marshall defense that limited UAB to just 141 yards passing, 4.2 yards per play and a 4-for-16 clip on third down. He ranks third in Conference USA with 91 tackles on the season, including 10 tackles for loss.
The Conyers, Ga. native also garnered the award from CollegeSportsMadness.com.
Marshall (11-0, 7-0 C-USA) is ranked 19th in the Associated Press and 20th in the USA Today Coaches Poll, respectively. The Thundering Herd hosts Western Kentucky (6-5, 3-4) Friday at noon ET in the regular season finale for both schools. The game will be carried on FOX Sports 1 with Daron Sutton and Coy Wire on the call.
