HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall volleyball's Sammie Bane (Brownstown, Ind.) has been selected to the Capital One All-Academic District 2 team, as announced by CoSIDA Thursday.
The setter was one of seven players elected to the Division I district list, after sporting a cumulative GPA of 3.95 with double majors in exercise science and psychology. Bane has made the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll for the past three years, and won the C-USA Academic Medal as well as earning all-academic conference honors in 2012 and 2013.
"It is a really great honor," Bane said. "It means so much to me. It's always nice getting rewarded for the work you put in on the court, but it's such an honor to be recognized for the work you put in in the classroom."
This is Bane's first academic honor of the season, after being named to the 2014 Preseason All-Conference team prior to the start of the year.
The senior captain is one of four C-USA members to earn All-Academic first team honors.
On the court, Bane leads the Herd with 936 assists and is tied for first with 25 service aces. Bane is one of only four Marshall setters to break the 4,000-career assist mark.
