HUNTINGTON, W.Va . - Marshall University softball will welcome three-time Olympic Gold Medalist Leah O'Brien-Amico as the keynote speaker for the 2015 Diamond Club Dinner. The annual dinner will be held on January 31st in the Don Morris Room of the Marshall University Student Center. A reception and silent auction will begin at 6 p.m., with the dinner program to follow at 7 p.m. In addition to the Diamond Club Dinner, Marshall Softball will host a clinic in the new indoor Chris Cline Athletic Facility on Sunday, February 1st.

O'Brien-Amico won the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Olympic Gold Medal and is a two-time world champion and Pan-American Games Champion. In college, she was a three-time NCAA champion, First Team NFCA All-American, and First Team Academic All-American at the University of Arizona. She was later named to the NCAA Division I 25th Anniversary team. O'Brien-Amico still holds the Women's College World Series record for batting average posting a .750 clip in the 1994 WCWS. She has served as a host for a faith-based television program, "More Than Conquerors," on the Trinity Broadcasting Network as well as provides color commentary for ESPN. She currently resides in California with her husband Tommy and their three sons.

"Not only is she one of the best to ever play the game, she has tremendous character and is such a dynamic individual. We are pleased to announce Leah as our keynote speaker and look forward to an exciting weekend at both the Diamond Club Dinner and Winter Clinic."

Marshall Softball will open the 2015 season in Charleston, S.C. at the College of Charleston Challenge with the first pitch slated for 1:30 p.m. against Army. The Herd returns eight starters and 14 letter winners from the 2014 season. The 2015 roster is highlighted by four C-USA All Tournament members: Shaelynn Braxton, Jordan Dixon, Kaelynn Greene, and Morgan Zerkle. Both Greene and Braxton received NFCA Mid-East All-Region recognition with Braxton, Dixon and Zerkle earning C-USA All-Conference honors.

Coach Shonda Stanton enters her 16th season with the Herd and will look to close in on her 500th win in the 2015 season as Marshall Softball's winningest coach. Stanton currently owns 480 victories. She has guided the Herd to three MAC regular season titles and five Conference Championship finals having won the 2013 Conference USA Championship. Stanton will also be looking to lead the Herd to its fourth consecutive Conference USA Championship final.

Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. for the reception with the Diamond Club Dinner beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Don Morris Room at the Marshall University Student Center. Individual tickets for the evening are $50 or $750 for a table sponsorship.
