Men's Golf Takes Seventh at Pinehurst Intercollegiate

PINEHURST, N.C. - Despite improving by two strokes from its first round performance on Pinehurst No. 8, the Marshall men's golf team dropped from sixth to seventh place in the final standings after three rounds at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate in Pinehurst, N.C.
"We didn't really play our best golf this week," coach Matt Grobe said. "The event was great and we had a good time competing with some great teams."
After posting a 24-over-par 308 in the third round at Pinehurst No. 8, the Herd's three-day total came to 83-over 931. No. 50 UNCG (GolfStat.com) took the victory over the 10-team field at 45-over 893.
Senior Brian Anania (Hurricane, W.Va.) and freshman Clark Robinson (South Windsor, Conn.) completed the best rounds for Marshall, ending in a four-way tie for 21st at 19-over 231. Redshirt junior Tas Sipowski (Jupiter, Fla.) had the best round for Marshall on the final day, putting up a 5-over 76. Also of note - Sipowski came in third in the tournament's putting contest at Thistle Dhu Putting Course, Monday, earning a trophy.

"We are looking forward to getting home and getting to work preparing for our next event at Furman," Grobe said.
Next, Marshall will compete at the Furman Intercollegiate in Greenville, S.C., March 28-30.
