Furman Day 1 - Results

GREENVILLE, S.C. - An eight-stroke difference separates Marshall from the top spot as the Thundering Herd posted a 5-over-par 293 in the first round at the Furman Intercollegiate, tying with two other teams for ninth place in an 18-team field, Friday.

No. 10 Virginia Tech leads the pack at 3-under 285, followed by USC Upstate and Georgia State, which both posted 1-under 287. The Herd split the pack at ninth with Presbyterian College and Furman University.

Individually, freshman Clark Robinson (South Windsor, Conn.) shot a 2-under 70 to tie with Grant Cagle of Georgia State and Austin Vick of Kennesaw State for fifth place, and senior Brian Anania (Hurricane, W.Va.) sits in a seven-way tie for eighth at 1-under 71. Robinson posted five birdies on the day, and he and Anania both shot an eagle on par-5 hole No. 6.
