Marshall to Face Morehead in First Dual Match

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.-
Marshall volleyball (4-6) returns for its first home dual match of the season, Tuesday, Sept. 16, against border rival Morehead State (0-9). The match is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Henderson Center.

Elementary schools from around the area will be in attendance as the Herd supports an anti-bullying campaign.

HAVE YOU HERD?

Sophomore Cassie Weaver (Huntington) has five double-double matches on the season, including three of her last four. The outside hitter leads the team with 101 kills and is second on the squad with 107 digs.

Sophomore Elyse Panick (Chicago) was named to the All-Saluki Invitational Team after collecting 21 kills during the weekend with six total blocks.

Four Herd players have received all-tournament honors in 2014. Panick joins juniors Jillian Shemanski (Jupiter, Fla.) and Lauren Legge (Pliny, W.Va.), and senior Sammie Bane (Brownstown, Ind.).

SCOUTING THE EAGLES

Morehead junior middle blocker Hannah Sigala leads Morehead with 78 kills on the season and 24 total blocks on the defensive front, second on the team to redshirt senior Laura McDermott, who has 25.


WE MEET AGAIN

Marshall last faced the Eagles in 2013, falling 3-0. Panick collected nine kills in the contest, while Weaver recorded eight.

The Herd also faced Morehead in 2012, winning 3-2. Bane had 33 assists in the match, while then-freshman Legge collected six kills.

UP NEXT

Marshall will travel to the Hokie Invitational this weekend to face teams from Radford, UNC-Wilmington, and Virginia Tech. The Herd will begin tournament play with Radford on Friday, Sept. 19 at 4:30 p.m.
