HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- The Thundering Herd men's soccer team was unable to rally after two second half goals helped the Appalachian State Mountaineers defeat Marshall 2-0 before a crowd of 317 at Hoops Family Field at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex.
Appalachian State is now 2-3-1 on the season, while Marshall falls to 0-2-2.

AGAINST THE MOUNTAINEERS
Appalachian State opened the scoring with a goal from Stanley Broaden in the 55th minute. Broaden received a pass from Donovan Japp at the six yard box and slotted the ball home for his second goal of the season. The play was started by Alex Herbst, who found a running Japp on the goal.
Broaden then continued to show his form by collecting his third goal of the season in the 62nd minute. The goal was created after a long ball was sent in from the right side by Cooper Coughlin. The ball fell to Broaden, who converted a half volley.
The Mountaineers attempted 15 shots, with five on goal, compared to seven shots by Marshall, with two on goal. Daniel Jodah (Mississauga, Ontario), led the way with four shots (one on goal) for the Herd.

"We've got to be more competitive. We have to create more scoring chances and find the right personnel out there in the field."

"It's back to the drawing board. We have to find guys who are going to mesh out there and there will probably be several major changes in the lineup."
