HUNTINGTON, W.Va.-- Marshall volleyball (5-6) travels to Blacksburg, Va., for its final tournament of the season. The Herd will face Virginia Tech, Radford, and UNC Wilmington in the Hokie Invitational.

Marshall will face Radford on Friday, Sept. 19, at 4:30 p.m. and plays UNCW on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and Virginia Tech at 7 p.m in Cassell Coliseum.

HAVE YOU HERD?

The Herd swept border rival Morehead State in straight sets Tuesday. The team recorded a season-high hitting efficiency of .356. Junior Lauren Legge (Pliny, W.Va.) led the squad with 10 kills. The middle blocker/outside hitter is third on the team with 102 kills.

Sophomore Cassie Weaver (Huntington) leads the team with 107, and fellow sophomore Ally Kiekover (Grand Rapids, Mich.) is second on the team with 104.

Junior Jillian Shemanski (Jupiter, Fla.) leads the Herd defensively with 42 total blocks.

SCOUTING THE HIGHLANDERS

Radford comes into the weekend at 8-3. The Highlanders faced common opponent Morehead State this season and defeated the Eagles 3-2 and 3-1.

Senior Rachel Wiechecki leads Radford offensively with 143 kills, and leading on the defensive front is senior Savannah Cantrell, who has 34 total blocks.

Senior setter Jena Braden enters the weekend looking for her fifth consecutive double-double.

SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS

UNCW brings a 9-2 record to Blacksburg, only suffering losses from in-state rivals Charlotte and N.C. State.

Senior outside hitter Morgan Kline tops the Seahawks in kills (132), while junior middle blocker Meredith Peacock leads with 56 total blocks.

Sophomore libero Morgan Owney was selected as the Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week after recording a career-high 34 digs in the Seahawks 3-2 win against Campbell.

SCOUTING THE HOKIES

Tech posts a 4-6 record entering the weekend. The Hokies fell 3-1 to common opponent Butler and No.19 Kentucky, but most recently defeated No.12 Illinois 3-2 last weekend.

Sophomore outside hitter Lindsey Owens leads VT with 125 kills and redshirt freshman right side player Ashley Battle tops the squad defensively with 41 blocks.

WE MEET AGAIN

Marshall last faced Radford in 2006, picking up a 3-2 win. The Herd played Virginia Tech in 2008, also winning 3-2. The last time Marshall faced UNCW was in 1984, when Marshall won 2-0.

UP NEXT

Marshall will begin Conference USA play when the Herd travels to Charlotte on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 6 p.m.
