MEET 2: Asheville Cross Country Carnival
Saturday, Sept. 20 | 9 a.m. ET
Asheville, N.C. | Asheville Christian Academy

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Having begun their 2014 campaign over two weeks ago, the Marshall cross country team looks to exhibit growth in its second fall meet at the Asheville Cross Country Carnival on Saturday morning.

Results and a recap from the event will be available at www.HerdZone.comand on Twitter (@HerdTFXC).

HAVE YOU HERD?
Coming off fifth-place finishes by the Thundering Herd men and women at the Tommy Evans Invitational over two weeks ago on Sept. 4, Marshall will continue to work on growing individually and as a team with a young squad that bears 17 new members of the Herd. Marshall will compete in a meet within the state of North Carolina for the third-straight season, with the first two having come at the Charlotte Invitational.

SMALL TALK
Quotes from coach Jeff Small
On Saturday's meet
"This is our first trip to the Asheville Cross Country Carnival. The course is supposed to be fast and flat so we are hoping for some good times for our team this weekend."

On the growth of the women's team since the Tommy Evans Invitational (Sept. 4)
"
Our women's team has been training really well the past two weeks. Madeline Armstrong has been looking better and better and should finish near the front along with Andrea Porter and Tori Dent which would give us a solid top three. Seniors Celia Leonard and Lauren Bartoldson have been coming on strong which should help our team improve."

On the status of the men's team overall
"Our men's team is extremely beat up at the moment. Tony Hayes is still in a boot, Jordan Brown-Stobbe back has been bothering him, Jack Preston has two bad hips, Austin Hamrick is slowed by a hamstring problem, William Shaffer has a calf strain, and Caleb Haneline has a sore IT band. I'm really just hoping that we can get them through this weekend without any additional injuries."

SCOUTING THE MEET
Big South Conference member UNC Asheville will host the meet with the men's 8k beginning at 9 a.m. and the women's 5k set to get underway at 9:45 a.m.

The meet will be run at the Asheville Christian Academy with the course expected to be flat and fast, consisting of primarily grass with a dirt and woodchip path mixed in.

UP NEXT
Marshall will reset and recharge before heading to Kentucky for the Louisville Cross Country Classic on Saturday, Oct. 4.
