IRVING, Texas- Marshall men's soccer goalkeeper Dominik Reining (Frankfurt, Germany) was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the 1-0 win against South Carolina on Sept. 26, the league announced Monday.
"We are really happy for Dominik, he has two shutouts in a row and he's done a great job of managing our defense," Head coach Bob Gray said. "Right now he is playing with a lot of confidence and hopefully that trend will continue for us."
Reining made six crucial saves in the win against the Gamecocks. It was Marshall's first victory in Conference USA since a 2-0 victory against FIU on Oct. 23, 2012.
Reining has started four of his seven games played in 2014. The freshman has only allowed six goals, with 23 saves and a .793 save percentage. The Herd is 2-1-2 with Reining in the net this season. Reining has kept two consecutive shutouts for the Thundering Herd and has not allowed a goal in almost 192 minutes.
Reining and the Herd will take on Saint Francis (Pa.) on Wednesday on the road at 7 p.m. before returning home to face Florida Atlantic in C-USA play. The match is slated for 7 p.m. at Hoops Family Field at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex.
