HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Former Marshall softball standout Andi Williamson has joined a new club in the NPF (National Pro Fastpitch) league, after being traded to the USSSA Florida Pride, the team announced Friday.
According to a club statement, Williamson, who was named NPF Rookie of the Year in 2013 with the Chicago Bandits, was traded over from the Pennsylvania Rebellion for the 25th pick in the 2015 NPF draft and also for utility player Alexa Peterson.
Williamson will be entering her third season in NPF. She signed as a free agent in May of 2013 and started 13 games during the season with the Bandits. Williamson posted a 9-2 record with an ERA of 1.67, both of which ranked third in NPF that season. In her second season, Williamson posted a 3-3 overall record.
Williamson is tied for the school record for wins at Marshall with 65. Additionally, Williamson ranks third all-time for innings pitched with 667.2 and is ranked first in career strikeouts with 731.
Williamson also plays professionally in Japan for Team Toda.
Herd coach Shonda Stanton said Williamson has been lucky to be a member of two quality organizations.
"It is a huge honor for Andi to become a member of the USSSA Pride," Stanton said. "She is fortunate to be able to play with two class organizations and elite athletes from both the Chicago Bandits and now the Pride. We are extremely proud of her."
The NPF season begins in March and lasts until roughly the end of August.
