IRVING, TEXAS - Marshall volleyball's Allie Kellerman (Louisville, Ky.) was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week as the Herd came from behind to defeat UTEP on Friday and handed UTSA its first home C-USA loss since joining the conference on Sunday.
"Allie has been a stabilizer all season and it's great to see her numbers where they are," Herd coach Mitch Jacobs said. "Knowing Allie, she's way more excited about our wins this past weekend than the individual awards. Allie truly believes in earning her way through hard work and has such a positive impact on our team."
Kellerman, who ranks No. 1 in Conference USA in digs per set, improved her average over the weekend in road matches at UTEP and UTSA. In her first match, the junior libero had 24 digs, which allowed her to surpass the 1,000-dig milestone in her Marshall career. Kellerman followed her performance at UTEP with 20 digs at UTSA on Sunday.
The Louisville, Ky., native averaged 4.89 digs per set over the two matches, which is 0.22 better than her season average. The junior libero leads the Herd with 416 digs. Kellerman has been a key contributor to the success of Marshall, pushing the squad to a 14-8 overall record, 5-4 in league play and shot at C-USA postseason contention.
This is Kellerman's second defensive honor this season (Sept. 14) and third in her career.
Marshall looks to make it three wins in a row on Wednesday as it host Middle Tennessee in the Cam Henderson Center at 6 p.m.
