Tennis Welcomes Two Ranked Teams this Weekend

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall tennis (3-2) will look to carry its winning momentum at home this weekend, welcoming two ranked teams to Barboursville, W.Va., beginning Friday, Feb. 13 at the Huntington Tennis Club.



The Herd will face off against No. 64 Louisville (9-1) Friday at 5 p.m., and conclude its weekend taking on No. 72 Minnesota Sunday, Feb. 15 at 11 a.m. Louisville and Minnesota will also play each other in a Saturday match, beginning at 3 p.m.

HAVE YOU HERD?



Marshall is coming off a weekend sweep, trumping border-rivals Morehead State 7-0 and beating Eastern Kentucky 6-1.

The last two face-offs with Louisville have been fights. Last season the Herd visited the Cardinals on senior day, falling in a close 4-3 contest. Conversely, Louisville came to Huntington during the Herd's senior day in the 2013 season. Marshall clipped the Cards 4-3 that match.

The Herd also downed Minnesota last season, defeating the then-No.55 Gophers 5-2.

Sophomore Anna Pomyatinskaya (Sochi, Russia) leads the Herd with a 4-1 singles record and classmate Rachael Morales (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) remains unbeaten at the No. 6 spot (2-0).



SCOUTING THE CARDINALS



The Cardinals are currently 9-1, losing their only match to No. 4 Duke 4-0 in Raleigh, N.C. at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. The team's most recent win was a 7-0 shut out at home against Saint Louis University (4-1).



Louisville's No. 1 player, Elle Stokes, has a 4-4 record at the No. 1 spot this season.



SCOUTING THE GOPHERS



No. 72 Minnesota enters the weekend also 3-2, most recently defeating Oregon 4-3. Senior Aria Lambert boasts a 4-1 singles record in dual match play, while freshman Carolina Ryba boasts the top winning percentage with a perfect 3-0 singles record.



UP NEXT



Marshall will head to the Old Dominion state, facing Liberty on Saturday, Feb. 21 in Lynchburg, Va., and faces Virginia Tech on Sunday in Blacksburg, Va. Times are yet to be announced.
