Big First Inning Moves 49ers Past Herd

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - A seven run first inning proved to be too much for the Marshall softball team, as the Charlotte 49ers capitalized on the early outpouring of offense to get the win, 8-1.
Marshall falls to 18-10 and 4-5 in Conference USA, while the 49ers are now 14-12 and 3-3 in conference.
AGAINSTTHE 49ERS
Marshall was able to get the first run of the afternoon. Freshman Elicia D'Orazio led off for the first time this season and reached third on a leadoff triple. She then scored after junior Kaelynn Greene singled on a precisely placed bunt that bounced past the pitcher.
From there, though, Charlotte took off, scoring seven runs in the first and one more in the second to make the score 8-1. The score stayed that way for the rest of the game, as Charlotte pitcher Lexi Betancourt earned her ninth win of the season.
Marshall's Jordan Dixon was credited with the loss, giving the sophomore a 17-10 record.
D'Orazio led the way for Marshall's hitters, going 4-4 with a run. Greene went 2-4 with one RBI.
