HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- The UAB Blazers (31-18, 15-7) used four home runs to move past Marshall (35-14, 14-8) past Marshall softball on senior day Sunday at Dot Hicks Field.
AGAINST THE BLAZERS
Marshall loaded the bases in the first inning, which led to sophomore Morgan Zerkle scoring on a wild pitch for the first run. Junior Shaelynn Braxton was then able to rip a single to left-center field that brought home junior Kaelynn Greene to make the score 2-0 Herd after one. The RBI gave Braxton her 56th of her season, which passes her total from last season and is four away from tying the school record.
UAB would add three runs in the top of the third off of two home runs. The Blazers would add another home run in the top of the fifth, a solo shot that made it 4-2. The Blazers would add a final homer in the seventh to make the score 5-2, where it would remain for the rest of the game.
Seniors Kristina Braxton and Emileigh Cooper each earned a hit on their senior day, with Braxton going 1-for-2 and Cooper going 1-for-3.
Marshall sophomore pitcher Jordan Dixon was credited with the loss, falling to 33-14. Dixon surpassed the 300 strikeout mark, joining former Herd standout Andi Williamson. Dixon now has 303 strikeouts on the year.
