MIAMI -- No. 5 seed Marshall softball (35-14, 14-8 Conference USA), will square off against No. 4 seed UAB (31-18, 15-7 C-USA) in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Tournament on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at FIU Softball Stadium. The winner will face the winner of the Western Kentucky-Charlotte quarterfinal on Friday at 2 p.m.

GOING FOR FOUR

Marshall will be attempting to compete in four consecutive Conference USA Tournament finals. Softball is the only team in Marshall history to make four total appearances in a C-USA championship game. Only DePaul (no longer in C-USA) has a longer softball streak (6). Marshall won the tournament in 2013, defeating Houston.

RPI UPDATE

Marshall is No. 49 in this week's NCAA Division I Ratings Percentage Index. That is the fourth highest ranking in Conference USA, behind only No. 33 Western Kentucky, No. 37 Florida Atlantic and No. 48 UAB.

UNBEATEN WHEN SCORING SIX OR MORE

Marshall is an unbeaten (21-0) when scoring six or more runs this season. Additionally, Marshall is 22-1 when holding opponents to two runs or less.

STRONG WHEN HOLDING A LEAD

When Marshall is leading after four innings, the team is an impressive 31-2. The Herd is 26-1 when leading after five innings and 22-1 when leading after six.

STATISTICAL UPDATE

Marshall's .344 team batting average ranks No. 1 in Conference USA and No. 13 in Division I. Marshall is also still No. 1 in stolen bases per game, with 3.10 per contest. Jordan Dixon leads Division I in victories with 33, while Morgan Zerkle is No. 1 in stolen bases with .96 per game. Junior Shaelynn Braxton has also joined Rachel Folden as the only Herd players with two seasons of 50 RBI or more. Here are a few other categories Marshall leads or is near the top in.

Marshall faced UAB in the final series of the regular season at Dot Hicks Field in Huntington, W.Va., last weekend. Marshall won the series on Saturday, winning by scores of 6-1 and 5-2. UAB won the final game 5-2 on Sunday.
