MIAMI -- Marshall sophomore center fielder Morgan Zerkle has been named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team, the league office announced today.
The All-Academic team is voted on by the league's sports information directors and honors 13 players, regardless of position.
Zerkle excels on the diamond and in the classroom, with a 3.62 GPA in Marshall's exercise science program.
That hard work on academics extends to the field, where Zerkle is having a season for the Marshall record books. Zerkle's 88 hits lead NCAA Division I (setting the single-season Marshall record), while her .512 batting average is ranked No. 2 in Division I (among players with 100 or more at-bats). Zerkle also leads the nation in stolen bases, with 47 (one shy of her own school record). She also is ranked No. 10 in Division I with 62 runs. She leads Conference USA play with 25 runs.
Zerkle and the Thundering Herd will take on UAB in today's Conference USA Championship quarterfinal at 1:30 p.m. in Miami, hosted by FIU.
