HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall men's soccer team (0-1) lost its opening match of the season 2-0 to Western Michigan (1-0) at the WMU Soccer Complex in Kalamazoo, Mich.
AGAINST THE BRONCOS
Western Michigan was able to take control of attacking chances early in the match. The buildup finally resulted in a goal in the 43rd minute after a ball was played into the box for freshman Cameron Sipple, who converted his first career goal.
In the second half, the Broncos added the second goal after a header from a corner kick by sophomore Brandon Bye in the 54th minute.
Marshall senior Nick Edginton (Wellington, New Zealand) led the way with two shots on goal.
THE GRAY AREA
Coach Bob Gray on the match:
"Not a very good effort on our part tonight. Western Michigan manhandled us and beat us to every loose ball and wanted it more than us. We just never got going. Statistically it showed by how they outshot us and got way more corners. Ironically we were hanging in during the first half, but we let in a silly goal and they took the lead. The second goal was an error by the goalkeeper. Hopefully we can just shake it off and be ready for Sunday against Detroit."
