Taibi Heads in Winner For @HerdMSoccer

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Sophomore Dominik Reining's eight saves and freshman Chris Taibi's first Thundering Herd goal helped to give the Marshall men's soccer team its first win of 2015, a 1-0 overtime victory on the road against Detroit.
Marshall now moves to 1-1-0, while the Titans fall to 0-1-1.
AGAINST THE TITANS
The two sides went into the first half without a goal. Marshall had more scoring chances, with three shots on goal to Detroit's two.
It was the Titans who started the second half strong. Marshall goalkeeper Dominik Reining was forced into four saves within the first 12 minutes of the half. From there, the Herd was able to settle in and keep the score tied at 0-0. Reining also made two saves against Detroit's Tommy Bowman in the 87th and 88th minutes, helping to lead the game into overtime.
In the overtime period, Marshall was able to grab the winner. The goal came from the head of freshman defender Chris Taibi (Wantagh, N.Y.) who latched onto a cross from senior midfielder Jack Hopkins (Birmingham, Ala.) to give the Herd the winner. The winning goal was the first Marshall goal of the season and the first of Taibi's Herd career.

"We're happy with the result. We had a better effort than the game on Friday, but there's still plenty of work to do. It was like a heavyweight fight. They good chances and we had good chances as well. We were able to get the game winner there in overtime, but there's still a lot of work to do before we hit the road again on Friday."
"I'm happy for the guys. We had a very solid performance by our goalkeeper, Dominik Reining and then of course Chris Taibi scored his first goal there as a freshman. We'll make the trip home and it will be a much happier trip with the win."

Marshall will continue its road swing with a trip to Pittsburgh, Pa. to take on Duquesne. The game will kick off Friday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m.
