HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 nonconference matchup Tuesday against Radford University in Radford, Va.
The Herd falls to 4-4-0, while the Highlanders improve to 5-1-1.
AGAINST THE HIGHLANDERS
The Herd outshot the Highlanders 6-2, but Radford was able to make one of its two shots on goal count. In the 34th minute, Radford's Sivert Daehlie rose to meet a Fraser Colmer corner kick with his head in the six-yard box to make the score 1-0.
In the 89th and 90th minutes, Marshall had two decent chances to tie the game. The first came from an acrobatic scissor kick attempt by junior Rimario Gordon (Kingston, Jamaica) that went high. In the final minute, junior Trevor Starcher had a chance from a tough angle near the goal, but could not turn the shot home.
Sophomore goalkeeper Dominik Reining (Frankfurt, Germany) had five saves for Marshall, including a few impressive leaping dives.
THE GRAY AREA
Coach Bob Gray on the match:
"It was just a tough match for us. It's been kind of like a broken record really, because I thought we played quite well. They scored off a corner kick which is frustrating, because we have been giving up a lot of our goals on set pieces."
"It's ironic compared to our play last year, because we didn't really have an attack last season and had to counter attack to score. This season we have plenty of offense, but just can't find the back of the net."
"We will have a tough match this weekend as we get back into Conference USA play against No. 24 FIU. Every game in C-USA is tough and this match is no different, so hopefully we can right the ship a bit against them."
