ATHEN, Ohio - The Marshall softball team struggled in its second series of the fall ball season in Athens, Ohio. The Herd dropped the first game 5-0 and then 6-1 in game two.

The troubles for Marshall started right from the beginning as the first two Bobcat batters would reach base safely and later come in to score off of an error and then a sac fly to take a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Sophomore Taylor McCord (Gilbert, Ariz) recorded the first hit for the Herd in the second inning with a double to right center field but Marshall could not get the timely hit to score the run.

Ohio scored two more in the fourth and one more in the sixth to get the lead out to 5-0 and that would be the eventual final in game one. The Herd finished with only two hits in the game as sophomore Elicia D'Orazio (Clermont, Fla.) ripped a double to left center in the sixth but was stranded at third.

Junior pitcher Jordan Dixon (Edmond, Okla.) pitched six innings for Marshall allowing seven hits in the game.

The second game of the double header started off better for Marshall as junior Morgan Zerkle (Milton, W.Va.) led off the game with double to center field. D'Orazio followed that up with an infield single. Zerkle used her speed to score on a ground out to second by McCord.

The Bobcats offense would jump right back in the bottom of the first scoring a run off of one hit and a Marshall error.

Senior Brittanie Fowler (Avon, Ohio) started in the circle for Marshall allowing four runs with three earned as the defense struggled again for the Herd. Marshall finished the game with three hits.

Marshall gets back to work this week in preparation for its next fall ball exhibition series as the Herd will welcome Concord to Dot Hicks Field Sunday Oct. 4. The double header is scheduled to begin with a noon first pitch.
