@Herd_Tennis Completes Day One at Hokie Fall Invite

BLACKSBURG, Va. --The Marshall women's tennis team finished the opening day of the Hokie Fall Invite hosted by Virginia Tech Friday. The Herd won three singles matches and one doubles match.

Marija Bogicevic won a doubles match and a singles match for the Herd. Daniela Dankanych won a pair of singles matches to reach the semifinals of the orange singles flight.

Competition began Friday with the first round of the doubles bracket. Bogicevic teamed up with VCU's Gabriela Araujo to win a doubles match over Marie-Louise Decamps and Vicky Kogan of George Washington, 8-2 in the Hokies doubles flight. Dankanych and Nikola Novackova fell to Drousile Dzeubou and Natalie Sayer of Radford, 8-5, in the Tech doubles flight.

Dankanych won a pair of matches to make the semifinals of the orange singles flight. Dankanych defeated Towson's Barbora Vasilkova in the first 6-1, 6-0, and defeated Virginia Tech's Sarah Baron in the quarterfinals, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3. Bogicevic won her first round match in the black singles flight against George Washington's Kogan, 6-1, 7-5, before losing in the quarterfinals to Dylan Owens of James Madison, 6-0, 6-1. Novackova lost in the first round of the grey singles flight to James Madison's Emma Peterson, 6-3, 6-0. She lost in the consolation bracket to UNC Wilmington's Annika Sillanpaa, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (10-2).
