BLACKSBURG, Va. — The Marshall women's tennis team completed the second day of the Hokie Fall Invite Saturday. Nikola Novackova and Marija Bogicevic each won a singles match for the Herd.
Play started Saturday morning with the second and third rounds of the doubles competition. Daniela Dankanych and Novackova received a bye into the consolation semifinals of the Tech doubles flight but fell to Barbora Vasilkova and Nicole Shakhnazarova of Towson, 8-4. Bogicevic and VCU's Gabriela Araujo fell in the quarterfinals of the Hokies doubles flight to Lucy Williams and Yevgeniya Schusterman of Towson, 8-6. The pair also lost to Laura Gomez and Celeste Matute of UNC Wilmington, 8-7 (4).
Saturday's action continued with the third round of the singles competition. Dankaynch lost in a semifinal match of the orange singles flight to Maria Siopacha of George Washington, 6-2, 6-2. Novackova will play for fifth place in the consolation bracket of the grey singles flight after defeating Camilla Littlewood of Radford, 6-3, 6-2. Bogicevic defeated Radford's Karlie Pope, 6-1, 6-1, to advance to the
Play at the Hokie Fall Invite concludes Sunday. The final rounds of the doubles competition will begin at 9 a.m. with singles play to follow.
