UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.-The Marshall Cross Country team wrapped up its season on Friday at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals hosted by Penn State University.

In a tough field comprising of seven nationally ranked teams between the men and women, the men finished 15th as a team out of 22 schools, while the women finished 21st out of 28 teams.

For the men in their first 10K race of the season, sophomore Daniel Green led Marshall runners with his time of 31:41, finishing in 43rd place.

Fresh off of being named to the Conference USA All-Academic team, seniors Tony Hayes and William Shaffer came through next. Hayes finished in 80th (32:22) and Shaffer finished in 99th place (32:50).

Rounding out the Herd seven was sophomore Nick Schmidt in 100th (32:53), freshman Alex Minor in 107th (33:13), freshman Logan Kerby in 136th (34:45), and senior Drake Seccurro in 141st (35:49).

CALEB'S CORNER

Assistant Coach Caleb Bowen on the women's performance
"It was awesome seeing Adriana [Cook] and Andrea [Porter] up in the mix in the women's race. They pushed each other for most of the race and in the end they both had great races. The next 3 also ran great races. Our 3-5 are so close and they just went back and forth with each other the whole race. I can't wait to see what this group does in track season."

Bowen on the men's performance

"On the guys side Daniel [Green] went straight to front from the beginning. With the leaders running a conservative pace he just relaxed and slowly moved up through the race. In the last mile the leaders took off and he did all he could to hang with them. His finish was the best we've had since Matthew Schiffbauer qualified for nationals in 2011. Heck, all the top 5 ran really well. Most of them ran faster through 5 miles than they ran at conference two weeks ago."

On today and moving forward

"What a year, today was a lot of fun. Our goal coming in to regionals was to get top 15 and we tied for 15th on the guy's side. I'm so proud of how both the guys and the ladies did today. But now, let's look forward to indoor season."

RUNNER REACTIONS:

Senior Tony Hayes on the men's performance

"Overall, I couldn't be more proud of the way the men of Marshall ran today. Placing in the top 15 was our goal and we accomplished just that. This will definitely be a moment I remember for the rest of my life."

Sophomore Adriana Cook on today's meet and moving forward

"I could not be any more proud of our girls today, and our boys as well. This was a great meet to wrap up with. The course was one of the toughest we've raced, but I'm very proud of how we went out strong and ran to our best potential. I was so incredibly excited to finish in the top 50, I never would've thought I'd be able to say that! Overall, I'm so thankful God blessed me with the ability to run and I do my best to show his glory through everything I do. Not only that, He blessed our team with an amazing season. We have big goals set for track season, I can't wait to see what lies ahead for us."

Senior Andrea Porter on the meet and the end to her cross country season

"I couldn't be happier with how this season ended for the team and myself. It was a tough, hilly course and Abbie [Short], Barkley [Castro], and I PR'd. This team worked so hard this season and to see everyone push themselves and work together makes me proud. My senior season has been everything I had hoped it would be and more. I'll miss cross country with this team more than I can put into words. Now it's time to get excited for track!"

As the cross country season comes to an end, the team will now look forward to track season which begins December 1st with an indoor dual meet against Ohio University at the Jeff Small Track at the Chris Cline Athletic Facility.
