Marshall Tennis Travels North to Penn State

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall tennis is back in action Sunday as it travels to State College, Pa. to take on the Penn State Nittany Lions at 11 a.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Herd is currently 4-5 overall following its loss this past weekend against Rice in its Conference USA opener. The 29th-ranked Owls defeated Marshall 4-3. Earning a doubles win for the Herd was the team of Derya Turhan and Rachael Morales. Turhan, Morales, and Maddie Silver won single matches for Marshall.
ONE-TWO PUNCH
Marshall has been led by Turhan and Morales this season at the No. 1 and 2 singles spot in the rotation. This spring, Turhan is undefeated in nine matches with seven wins and two unfinished matches. Morales, who has been new to the No. 2 spot, has seen success this year with five wins in the position. Last weekend, Morales played in the No. 3 spot and won a three-set match against Rice's Alison Ho
Turhan and Morales are paired together in doubles for the Herd. The duo has earned four wins, including victories over No. 68 Yale and Rice.
SCOUTING THE NITTANY LIONS
Penn State is 2-5 this season with wins against VCU and St. Bonaventure. The Nittany Lions are coming off of a tough 7-0 loss to 50th-ranked Columbia University. Penn State is led by senior Kimberly-Ann Surin, who is 3-3 during the spring semester. Senior Katherine Whiteaway and Junior Jacqueline Zuhse are 6-10 in doubles play.
This will be the 15th matchup between Marshall and Penn State. The Herd leads the all-time series with nine wins.

UP NEXT
The Herd returns back to Huntington for a three-match homestand against FIU, VCU and in-state rival West Virginia. Marshall will compete against the Panthers on March 4, and then versus the Rams on March 6. The Thundering Herd and Mountaineers will meet on March 11.
