HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall volleyball coach Mitch Jacobs has announced the 2016 spring schedule, which is headlined by a Saturday doubleheader in Gullickson Gym against the University of Charleston and Concord. Admission is free.
The Thundering Herd opens its spring slate by traveling to I-64 rival Morehead State on Thursday for a 6 p.m. start. Marshall began its season last year at the Eagle Challenge hosted by Morehead State. MU won its three matches at the invitational, including a 3-0 win over the Eagles.
Marshall returns home on Saturday with a twinbill against UC and Concord. The Herd will face UC at 10:30 a.m. and CU at 1:45 p.m. Concord and Charleston will play each other at noon.
The Herd wraps up its spring schedule with a trip to Ohio on April 5 at 6 p.m. Marshall will finish the spring with a Division I Invite at Louisville, Ky., on April 9. MU will play three teams that will be announced at a later date.
Last season, Marshall reached the Conference USA tournament for the fourth straight year, as it went 16-14 overall. MU was led by Ally Kiekover (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Allie Kellerman (Louisville, Ky.), as both placed themselves in the Thundering Herd record book. Kiekover finished the season with a .402 hitting percentage, good for second all-time in a single season. The junior middle blocker was named to the All-C-USA first team. Kellerman set a new single season Herd record with 555 digs and 4.59 digs per set.
