HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall volleyball is set to host four summer camps at the Cam Henderson Center through June and July, the program announced on Friday.
The first camp being held is the High School Team Competition Camp on June 13-15. The camp features skill sessions, team practice and a competition session. On the final day, a full-day tournament will be held. Coaches attending with their teams will have a Q&A session with Herd coach Mitch Jacobs.
On July 18-19, Marshall will host the Positional Camp, which will be open to all registrants ages 10-18. Campers looking to hone their skills at setter, attacker, defensive specialist/libero or a combination will be able to do so with instruction from Herd student-athletes and coaches.
Finally, on July 20-21, the Herd will host two camps. The first being a High Potential/Elite Camp, open to those ages 14-18 and looking to take their game to the next level. This camp features game-type drills among those of similar skill levels to improve the ability to think and perform within live action.
The second camp is the General Skills section, for those ages 9-16 at the beginner/intermediate level. This camp is will help to develop the entire game for the participant. All skills will be touched upon in both individual and team skill situation.
Each camp will be held on the Marshall University campus at the Cam Henderson Center and Gullickson Hall.
For additional information, such as costs, see the camp brochure.
Participants may register online or by completing and sending the brochure with payment to Marshall University Volleyball, P.O. Box 1360, Huntington, WV 25715.
ABOUT THE COACH
Marshall coach Mitch Jacobs and his staff will teach and direct all the Herd camps. Coach Jacobs brings 24 years of camp direction to the MU camps. The 2016 camps will run under the philosophy that all campers have the opportunity to improve their skills through strong fundamental teaching as well as advanced technique training.
In his 14 years at Marshall, the two-time Conference USA Coach of the Year has changed the perception of the volleyball program at Marshall. Prior to Coach Jacobs' arrival in 2002, the team was coming off a two-year combined record of 11-46. The Herd then compiled six straight 20-win seasons and seven in his first eight seasons at the school. Marshall competed for two straight Mid-American Conference Tournament championships, won the 2005 Conference USA regular-season and tournament titles and the '07 C-USA regular-season crown. Marshall competed in the NCAA tournament in 2005 for only the second time in the volleyball program's history.
