@HerdVolleyball Closes Non-Conference Slate at Active Ankle Challenge

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall volleyball closes its non-conference schedule this weekend at the 2016 Active Ankle Challenge hosted by the University of Florida in Gainesville, Fla. The Herd will play Jacksonville at 10 a.m. and Florida A&M at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, while playing the seventh-ranked Gators on Saturday at 4 p.m.
HAVE YOU HERD?
Marshall extended its win streak on Wednesday at Stetson with its fifth consecutive sweep. It was the first time since 2007 that the Herd has blanked an opponent in five straight matches. In the five-match span, Marshall has hit at .310 as a team, while holding its opponents to only hitting at .149.
Senior libero Allie Kellerman had one of her best overall matches for the Herd this season at Stetson. The Louisville, Ky., native had six aces, the most in a single-match since 2007. She also added a match-high 16 digs. Kellerman leads Conference USA with 198 digs, and good for 26th in the country.
Senior Ally Kiekover enters this weekend's challenge only four kills away from 1,000 in her career. She will become the eighth person in Herd history since 1987 to do so. Last week, classmate Cassie Weaver became the seventh person all-time by earning her 1,000th career kill at Toledo.
SCOUTING THE DOLPHINS
Jacksonville enters the tournament with a 3-6 overall record. The Dolphins started the season off strong, winning three of their first four, but has since lost their last five. During the five-match losing skid, Jacksonville lost in four sets to Charlotte and was swept by Miami (Ohio), Illinois-Chicago, Memphis and Auburn. JU is led offensively by Jessica Armstrong and Mallory Mattingly with 94 kills each. Mackenzie Swan has a team-high 160 digs.
SCOUTING THE RATTLERS
Florida A&M holds a 2-8 overall record, but has played tough opponents in Miami, No. 16 Florida State, Baylor and Georgia. The Rattlers' two wins this season came at the South Alabama Tournament against FIU and Southeastern Louisiana, both in four sets. On Tuesday against Georgia, Florida A&M was led by Nicole Abreu with 18 kills and hit at .312.
SCOUTING THE GATORS
Seventh-ranked Florida dropped the first match of the season against No.1 Nebraska in four sets, but has rallied to win seven in a row. The Gators defeated Oregon and Florida State in four sets, while sweeping Central Michigan, Morgan State, Michigan State, Denver and LIU-Brooklyn. Florida is paced by Carli Snyder with 105 kills (3.89 kps) and hits at .344. Assisting Snyder is Allie Monserez with 269 assists.
