HUNTINGTON, W.Va.-The Marshall women's soccer team (2-2-1) earned its second win in the last three matches, defeating the East Tennessee State Buccaneers, 3-0, Sunday afternoon at Hoops Family Field.

Freshman Jordan Sackaris scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season just five minutes into the match. Sydney Arnold and Gabby Powers also scored for the Herd. Junior goalkeeper Emily Moreland tallied her second clean sheet of the season.

Jayne Lawman and Katie Suchodolski recorded assists for Marshall on the first two goals. Powers' goal was unassisted.

Marshall held possession for most of the first half and took the lead 2-0 into halftime.

ETSU came out on the attack in the second half and the Marshall defenders made great plays all over the Bucs attacking side. Moreland finished with three saves, all coming in the second half.

COACH'S QUOTES
Head Coach Kevin Long

"I thought it was good, after Friday we let a game slip away that we thought we could win. That was the message on Saturday in training, was to take care of our chances and be a little more aggressive."

"I think one of the talking bits from the opposing team on Friday night was that they wanted to out physical us and I think that's going to be hard for us. We are not a big team and we have to step up physically to the challenge that is put in front of us."

"I was glad to see the performance today, I thought that we stepped out of the gate well prepared mentally and well prepared physically and we got the goals early, which put us in control of the game. We weren't chasing like we were on Friday night. So my hats off to them, I thought they played overall a well-rounded game."

Marshall will make the short trip to Athens, Ohio to take on the Ohio Bobcats Friday Sept. 9. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
