Game notes - Old Dominion at Marshall - October 14, 2017
The game captains, as selected by Marshall head coach Doc Holliday and his staff, were junior Tyre Brady (offense), sophomore Malik Gant (defense) and junior Ryan Bee (special teams).
Kaare Vedvik's 92-yard punt in the first quarter etched his name in the record books at Marshall. Vedvik's punt is the longest in Marshall history, breaking the record of 79 yards set by John Arnold against Temple in 1974 - a mark that stood for 43 seasons. Vedvik's punt is also the seventh-longest in FBS history, based on available data, and is the longest by an FBS punter in 45 years (Ray Guy, Southern Mississippi, 93 yards, vs. Ole Miss, 1972). The 92-yard punt is also the longest in FBS competition this season (Corey Bojorquez, New Mexico, 77 yards).
Chase Litton's 2-yard touchdown to Tyre Brady extended Litton's streak of consecutive games with a touchdown pass to 27 games, the second-longest active streak among FBS quarterbacks.
Litton passed Tony Petersen in the program record books. Litton moved into No. 8 in Marshall history in career passing yards with 6,599, passing Petersen, who had 6,501.
Ryan Yurachek extended his streak of consecutive games with a reception to 35 games. Yurachek entered the weekend tied for the fourth-longest active streak in FBS.
Old Dominion's second quarter field goal are the first points allowed in the first half by Marshall since N.C. State. Marshall has still not allowed a first quarter touchdown this season (6 points on two field goals).
Marshall's defense allowed 197 yards, the fifth time in Doc Holliday's eight seasons the defense has held a team to fewer than 200 yards of total offense. The others: Norfolk State (191 in 2015), Rhode Island (175 in 2014), Rice (180 in 2014) and Gardner-Webb (184 in 2013).
Junior receiver Tyre Brady had his second career two-touchdown game. He has six receiving touchdowns in his first six games at Marshall.
Tyler King's touchdown was the second of his career.
Yurachek's touchdown was the 20th of his career and fourth of the season.
Marshall's defense has held the opposition to fewer than 100 yards rushing in consecutive games for the first time since the start of the 2013 season.
Litton's streak of consecutive passes without an interception is now 112.
Marshall won its Conference USA home opener for the seventh consecutive season.
