Declared for the NFL Draft on Jan. 14, ending his collegiate career after 34 games … Finished his career with 8,332 yards and 72 touchdown passes … Ranks fifth in MU history in career passing yards and fourth in career passing touchdowns … Also ranks in the top five all-time in completions (727, fourth) and attempts (1,197) … Is sixth in program history in career completion percentage at 60.7 percent, trailing Byron Leftwich, Chad Pennington, Rakeem Cato, Michael Payton and Stan Hill … One of four Marshall QBs in school history with at least 8,000 passing yards and 70 touchdowns, along with Cato, Pennington and Leftwich … Second QB in school history to complete at least 60 percent of passes in three consecutive seasons (Leftwich) … In January was invited to the NFL Scouting Combine … Signed with Steinberg Sports and Entertainment, an agency headed by Leigh Steinberg and Chris Cabott.

JUNIOR SEASON (2017): Before the season, he was invited to work as a counselor at the prestigious Manning Passing Academy, a four-day clinic for quarterbacks, running backs, receivers and tight ends, held annually at Nicholls State in Thibodaux, Louisiana … Enjoyed a career season across the board, setting personal single-season highs in completions (266), passing yards (3,115) and passing touchdowns (25) … Went 164 pass attempts without an interception, the second-longest streak in school history (Chad Pennington, 1997-98, 177) … Had a multi-season streak of 27 consecutive games with a touchdown pass snapped in a win at Middle Tennessee … Streak was the second-longest among FBS quarterbacks at the time, and is the second-longest in school history (Cato, 46) … Started all 13 games … Named team captain twice … Threw a touchdown pass in 11 of 13 games … Eclipsed 300 yards in three games, giving him nine for his career … Tossed four touchdown passes twice, giving him six games with at least four TD passes in his career … Season-high 363 passing yards, career-high tying 33 completions and three touchdowns vs. FIU … 350 passing yards and two touchdowns at No. 23 North Carolina State … 308 passing yards and four touchdowns in a regular season-ending win against Southern Miss … USM allowed four touchdown passes to an opposing C-USA QB for the second time in the last 56 games (Marshall in 2013) … 233 passing yards, four touchdowns and no interception in win at Cincinnati …Two touchdowns and no interception in win at Charlotte … Three touchdowns and no interceptions in home win against Old Dominion … Two touchdowns at FAU … Passed and rushed for a touchdown in win against Kent State ... SOPHOMORE SEASON (2016): Made 10 starts at quarterback … Completed 231 of 371 passes for a career-best 2,612 yards and a career-high 24 touchdowns against 9 interceptions … Threw at least one touchdown pass in each of his 10 starts … Became the fourth quarterback in Marshall history to pass for six touchdowns in a single game (Rakeem Cato, Chad Pennington and Byron Leftwich were the others), a feat accomplished in the season opener against Morgan State … Completed 32 of 57 passes for 413 yards and four touchdowns against Akron, the 31st 400-yard passing game in program history … Passed for 330 yards in a home win against Florida Atlantic … Threw for 246 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in a rout of Middle Tennessee … Had his sixth career 300-yard game with a 301-yard performance at FIU … Completed 62.3 percent of his passes … Herd is now 6-0 in his career as a starter when he throws at least two touchdown passes without an interception … One of only nine sophomore quarterbacks at the Division I FBS level who threw for 24 or more touchdown passes … Ranked fifth in Conference USA in passing yards per game, trailing two seniors, a junior and a sophomore … Enters his junior season in the top 10 in MU history in completions, passing touchdowns and completion percentage.

FRESHMAN SEASON (2015): In 11 games, completed 230-of-383 passing for 2,605 yards, with 23 touchdowns and 8 interceptions … His 23 TDs is Marshall freshman record, as was his 2,649 yards total offense (ranking 19th overall in MU single-season annals) … In red zone, was 34-of-49 (.694) for 250 yards and 17 TDs, with only one interception … Top game came in 34-10 victory at Charlotte, with a 33-of-48 day for 486 yards and two scores with no interceptions. The 486 yards rank third in Herd single-game history, and his season-long 66-yard pass to Davonte Allen was for a TD … Also passed for 343 yards in triple-overtime loss at Middle Tennessee, going 33-of-55 with three TDs and one pick … After seeing no action in Weeks 1-2 against Purdue and at Ohio, was moved into starting role for Week 3 home game versus FCS member Norfolk State, and opened with 24-of-31 day for 270 yards with four TDs and no interceptions … The four TDs against NSU matched the Herd mark for a first start by any QB, set by redshirt sophomore Stan Hill against Miami (Ohio) in 2002 … Completed at least 60 percent of his throws in seven of 11 starts … In St. Petersburg Bowl victory, the Tampa native went 23-of-34 for 218 yards with one TD and one interception … Was 5-0 in home games as starter.

HERD FILE: Born Oct. 5, 1995 in Winter Park, Florida … Finished high school career in 2013 season at Wharton High, graduated in the spring of 2014 and sat out the following semester … A three-star prospect (Rivals.com, 247Sports) … At Wharton, the three-star prospect (Rivals, 247Sports) threw for almost 8,000 yards in his four-year career … He threw for 54 touchdowns and ran for another 10 and as a 2013 senior, threw for nearly 2,200 yards and 13 TDs, and posted more than 2,500 yards total offense … Was ranked No. 21 in Tampa Bay Home Team 100 top players by Tampa Bay Times … Originally committed to USF, also had offers from LSU, Florida Atlantic, FIU, UMass, Toledo, Western Michigan, Georgia State and Western Kentucky …Also a basketball standout, was an All-Hillsborough County second team selection and a 1,000-point career scorer at Wharton … Also played basketball at Wharton, where he was a 1,000-point career scorer … Adopted older brother, Shawn Vanzant, played for Butler’s NCAA Tournament final Four teams in 2010 and 2011, starting at guard for the latter.
