COACH'S CORNER

Quotes from head coach John Mercer

On the match…

It was a great college tennis match. It came down to two third-set tiebreakers to determine the winner. Fortunately, Rachael (Morales) and Stephanie (Smith) were able to pull them out. Give Virginia Tech a lot of credit for fighting back after we took the doubles point.

On the individual performances against ranked competition…

Derya (Turhan) played an awesome match. Just a solid performance from the beginning to the end against one of the top players in the nation. Maddie (Silver) was also very mentally tough today. She was able to come back and win two sets after having a couple of set points in the first set get away from her.

On Anna Pomyatinskaya and Daniela Dankanych

Even though Anna and Dani weren't able to win their singles matches, they were awesome in their doubles matches to help get us off to a 1-0 lead.

On the team…

I was really proud of our team and how hard they competed throughout the entire match. I think it says a lot about the character of our team. Today was just a great team effort. We're looking forward to Friday and having Louisville at home.
