Marshall Men's Golf Completes Day One at Pinehurst

PINEHURST, N.C. - The Marshall men's golf team finished day one at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate. The Herd sits in seventh place with one round remaining.
Senior Clark Robinson leads the Herd, as he is currently tied for 14th overall. Clark shot 75 in both rounds to finish the day with an 8-over-par 150 this afternoon. Freshman Cole Moore finished three spots behind Robinson at 17th with a 9-over-par 151 on the day. He had a one-stroke improvement to move up four spots at the end of the second round.
FROM THE LEADERBOARD
Ball State leads the team competition by one stroke over Old Dominion. The Cardinals finished with a combined 22-over score of 590. Old Dominion scored a 23-over 591. Leading the way for ball State were Johnny Watts and Timothy Wiseman, who each finished with a 4-over 146 on the day. Boston College's Matt Naumec leads all competitors with a 1-over 143.
COACH'S CORNER
Head coach Matt Grobe:
"The golf course was incredibly hard today. Not one player in the field was able to break par. I was so happy with all of our guys. I know the scores weren't as good as we would have liked, but the guys showed great character. They never gave up and fought for every stroke.
"The conditions got tougher as the day went on and as a team, we improved eight strokes in the afternoon. Clark (Robinson) shot a double of really nice 75s. He really only struggled on one hole, but it was the same hole each round.
"We tee off early in the morning and the temperatures are supposed to be in the low 30s. It will be a challenge, but I am looking forward to see how we play."
