@Herd_Tennis Continues Homestand Against Winthrop, Miami (OH)

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -The Marshall women's tennis team continues its five-match homestand this weekend when its hosts the Winthrop Eagles Friday at 4 p.m. and the Miami (OH) RedHawks Sunday at 11 a.m. Both matches will be played at the Huntington Tennis Club.

HAVE YOU HERD?
Marshall is 6-5 after splitting the first two matches of its five-match homestand. The Herd defeated Penn State, 4-0, for its third win over a Big Ten Conference opponent this season and lost to Columbia, 4-2. Marshall is led by Maddie Silver, who has compiled a 9-1 singles record at the Nos. 2 and 3 spots. Silver has won eight consecutive matches and her only loss of the season came in the match against then-No. 20 Kentucky. Derya Turhan is 8-2 at the No. 1 spot and Stephanie Smith is 7-2 at the Nos. 2 and 3 spots for the Herd. Marshall features two ranked players in Silver (No. 82) and Turhan (No. 122).

Turhan and Anna Pomyatinskaya lead the Herd with a 6-3 doubles record at the No. 1 spot. Smith and Daniela Dankanych are 7-4 at the No. 3 spot. Silver and Rachael Morales are 5-4 at the No. 2 spot.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Winthrop is 8-2 this season and will bring a five-match win streak into Friday's contest. The Eagles are a perfect 3-0 in Big South Conference play and have shut out all three conference opponents. Winthrop is the defending Big South Conference champion, finishing the 2016 season with an overall record of 20-6. The Eagles defeated Marshall last season in Rock Hill, S.C., 6-1. Derya Turhan was the only Herd player to win a match, defeating Lauren Proctor at the No. 1 spot.

SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS
Miami (OH) enters Sunday's match with a 3-6 record. The RedHawks will play Winthrop Saturday in Huntington prior to facing the Herd. Miami (OH) is just 1-3 away from home, with the one win coming over Indiana. The RedHawks are led by Nelli Ponomareva, who has a 5-2 singles record this season. Emily Struble is the only other RedHawks player with a winning record, posting a 4-3 singles record this season. Miami (OH) does not have a doubles pairing with a winning record this season.
