@HerdVolleyball to Host Eastern Kentucky Friday in Scrimmage

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall volleyball team welcomes the Eastern Kentucky University Colonels to the Cam Henderson Center on Friday at 6 p.m. for a preseason scrimmage. Admission is free and open to the public.
HAVE YOU HERD?
The Thundering Herd held an intrasquad scrimmage last Sunday. Sophomore Jac'cara Walker led the white team with 13 kills, while freshman Addisyn Rowe had nine and freshman Katie Jacques had eight. The green team featured the trio of senior Taylor Pelton, junior Lauren Mattmuller and sophomore Madison Hill each earning 10 kills.
Marshall was predicted to finish fifth in the annual Conference USA Preseason Poll as selected by the league coaches. Sophomores Hill and Walker were selected to the C-USA Preseason Team.
SCOUTING THE COLONELS
Eastern Kentucky University boasted a 15-15 overall record last season and a 9-7 record in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Colonels return 12 student-athletes from a year ago and welcome three newcomers.
EKU is led by senior outside hitter Nikki Drost and sophomore setter Rachel Woody. Drost was named to the 2017 OVC Preseason Team after leading the team with 368 kills and being named to the 2016 All-OVC First Team. Woody also earned 2017 OVC Preseason Team honors. She was named the 2016 OVC Freshman of the Year award and led the Colonels with 828 assists.

UP NEXT
Marshall's regular season begins on Friday, Aug. 25 at the Austin Peay Tournament in Clarksville, Tenn. The Herd will compete against No. 19 Missouri, Austin Peay and UMKC.
