KETTERING, Ohio – The second round of the Dayton Flyer Invitational was suspended Monday evening due to darkness. The Marshall men's golf team officially sits in sixth place after the first round. Play will resume Tuesday at 10 a.m.
"I was really pleased with our team today," Herd head coach Matt Grobe said. "We have had a tough fall so far but the guys have been working hard and it finally paid off today. Kyle (Mitchell) and Thomas (Frazier) played great today to lead our team but Alex (Weiss) and I saw a lot of good things from all our guys. Today was a great day!
"We need to back it up tomorrow with a solid final round."
Freshman Kyle Mitchell was in a tie for fourth place at the end of round one after shooting a 1-under 70. Redshirt sophomore Will Straub and redshirt senior Thomas Frazier both scored a 2-over 73 and were tied for 16th overall.
The Herd managed to get through the second round, except for redshirt sophomore Cameron Root who is playing as an individual. Root has two more holes to finish in the second round. Frazier scored a 2-under 69 in the second round and unofficially moved into the top 10.
At the end of the first round, Davidson led the team category with a 1-over team score of 285. Dayton was in second, three shots behind Davidson. Alex Ross of Davidson and Chris Handy of Oakland were tied at the top of the leaderboard with a 3-under 68.
