Westerville, Ohio native to join Thundering Herd

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall's men's golf program will welcome Tyler Jones next fall, Thundering Herd head coach Matt Grobe announced Thursday.

Jones won the 2018 North-South junior championship and has won a Ohio high school state title at Worthington Christian in each of the past two years (team championship in 2017, individual crown in 2018).

The Westerville, Ohio native was a two-time first-team all-state pick and was named the 2018 Central District Player of the Year, earning first-team all-district honors three times and all-district tournament acclaim twice.

"I am so excited to have Tyler join our team," said Grobe. "He is wonderful golfer, but more importantly, a wonderful kid. He comes from a great family and we are looking forward to him joining what we have built here. His father, Scott, has been Alex Weiss' swing coach since Alex, who set the majority of our individual records, was a junior."

"I have really enjoyed getting to know Tyler's family over the last couple of years and I am looking forward to continuing those relationships and watching him grow as a player and a person."

A four-time Mid-State league first-team selection, Jones garnered Academic All-Ohio honors (with a 4.06 GPA) and participated in the 2017 U.S. Junior Amateur and the 2018 PGA Junior Amateur.
