CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Marshall women's basketball team is back on the road to take on the Southern Illinois Salukis, Saturday at 3 p.m. eastern, from the SIU Arena.
The Thundering Herd comes in at 0-2 and the Salukis come in at 1-1.
The game will be broadcast on ESPN3. The game will also be on 88.1 WMUL-FM, with audio streamed online at www.marshall.edu/wmul through one of the Listen Live links, with Scott Hall as play-by-play.
Last time out - at Bowling Green Nov. 13, 2018 - L, 99-76
Marshall could not overcome a hot shooting performance by the Falcons in the 23-point loss. Bowling Green shot 55 percent from the field and a blistering 57 percent from three. The Falcons led from start to finish. Marshall fought back in the second half, outscoring Bowling Green 23-20 in the third quarter and cutting the deficit from 20 down to 11 with just over seven minutes left in the fourth quarter. BGSU called a timeout and took back control. Herd senior guard Shayna Gore scored a career-best 34 points to tie a Stroh Center record, and passed Tynikki Crook (2007-11) for fourth place all-time with 1,485 career points. Gore hit six three-pointers in the game, which is also tied for the third most in program history. Freshman guard Kia Sivils scored 12 points and had three assists and no turnovers in her 25 minutes of action on the floor running the point.
Scouting the Salukis
Southern Illinois has started the season 1-1 with a close 95-94 loss at UT-Martin in the season-opener and then a 60-40 victory over Southeast Missouri State at home on Wednesday. The Salukis shot 53 percent from the floor against UT-Martin however; the Skyhawks sank 26 free throws - 10 more than SIU - to help gain the win. The Salukis also lost the turnover battle 25-18 nd UT-Martin turned that into 35 points. Makenzie Silvey scored 29 points in the loss and Abby Brockmeyer chipped in 20 and 11 boards. In the win over Southeast Missouri State, the Salukis held the Redhawks to shooting just 25.9 percent from the floor and forced 23 turnovers. Nicole Martin scored 19 to lead SIU and Silvey added 17. Brockmeyer had another double-double with 13 rebounds and 11 points. Silvey leads the team with 46 points and averaging 23 points per game. Brockmeyer is the leader on the boards with 12 per contest and Brittney Patrick has 11 assists to just three turnovers.

Marshall and Southern Illinois first met in Charlottesville, Va., on Dec. 4, 1993. The Salukis won 78-62. 19 years went by before they played each other again as Marshall won 70-66 in Carbondale. The Herd won three-straight matchups before SIU took the most recent contest in the Cam Henderson Center on Dec. 2, 2017. The Salukis won 64-59 as forward Nicole Martin had a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards. Shayna Gore came off the bench for Marshall with 19 points and hit five three-pointers.
Following the contest at Southern Illinois, the Herd returns to the Cam Henderson Center on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 1 p.m., against Bluefield State.
