The junior is a two-time member of the Commissioner’s Honor Roll
IRVING, Texas – Marshall men's soccer junior defender Carlos Diaz-Salcedo was named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team, the league office announced Monday.
It is the first all-academic team selection for Diaz-Salcedo and is a two-time member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and received the 2018 Academic Medal.
"Carlos is an outstanding young man," Herd head coach Chris Grassie said. "He's a worthy winner of this honor as he epitomizes what a student-athlete should be. He's been fantastic for us this year and has played through a lot of pain, which is a testament to his courage. He is very diligent in the classroom, and is organized. This shows with his excellent performance as both a student and an athlete."
Diaz-Salcedo sports a 3.73 overall grade point average as an international business and finance major. A key piece of the Marshall defense, he has appeared and started in 16 matches and played 1,479 minutes. The Barcelona, Spain, native scored his first goal of the season with a header at Butler. He also assisted on the goal in the Herd's 1-0 win over Ohio State.
Diaz-Salcedo was a second team all-conference selection in 2017 after starting 18 matches and logging 1,538 minutes, the third most on the squad. He tied for the team lead with four assists.
The Herd is back in action in the first round of the Conference USA Championship Tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m., against the FIU Panthers. The tournament is hosted in Charlotte.
