Minor, Garrison pace Herd
STATE COLLEGE, Pa.—Marshall cross country closed its 2018 campaign Friday afternoon at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals hosted by Penn State.
In driving rain and cold weather, the men's team finished 20th and the women's side finished 29th.
Junior Alex Minor led the men's side with a 68th place finish and time of 32:48 in the team's only 10K race of the season. Senior Nick Schmidt in the final collegiate race of his distinguished Marshall career finished 87th with a time of 33:08.
Sophomore Coy Smith finished 119th with a time of 34:01. Fellow sophomore Joel Krznaric finished 155th with a time of 35:28. Freshman Ryan Vaught ran in 35:37, and finished 157th.
Freshman Madelyn Garrison led the Thundering Herd as she did for every meet this season. She finished 159th with a time of 24:07. Garrison is the first Marshall runner since the school joined the Conference USA to pace the team in every meet in the season.
Junior Mary Kerby came through the line next in 185th with a time of 24:47. Junior Abigail Short finished in 196th with a time of 25:44.
Following Short was Audreana Lewis with a time of 25:49 in 197th, followed by freshman Alexandra Evans in 200th with a time of 26:26.

The cross country season comes to a close, with track and field set to begin for the program. The first Thundering Herd track and field meet will take place Friday, December 7 with the Marshall Opener, a tri-meet between Marshall, Northern Kentucky, and Ohio. The meet takes place at the Jeff Small Track at the Chris Cline Indoor Facility.
