HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall women's basketball team earned its second-straight win, 88-67, over the Coppin State Eagles Saturday afternoon in the Cam Henderson Center. The Herd hit 16-of-32 from three-point range.

The Thundering Herd improves to 3-4 and the Eagles fall to 0-5.

"That was a good day, and a good win," Herd head coach Tony Kemper said. "We came out ready to play and that was great. Defensively we were very good in the first quarter. In the turnaround after Evansville, we talked a lot about ball movement and we were much better moving the basketball today. 24 assists, that's a good day."

Marshall's 16 made three-pointers were the most since the Herd hit 15 on Dec. 20, 2016 against Maine-Fort Kent.

Senior Shayna Gore came close to a triple-double with 27 points, nine assists and eight rebounds. Sophomore Kristen Mayo scored 18 points coming off a perfect 6-for-6 performance from beyond the arc. Her 100 percent from three ties a Marshall record with Tamira Higgins who was 5-of-5 from three against Chattanooga on Jan. 17, 1994. Mayo's six made three's is a career-high and is tied for the third most in a single game in program history.

Redshirt senior Taylor Porter chipped in with 13 points and added five assists and a career-high two blocks. Junior Ashley Saintigene scored 12 points and had two blocks to give her 70 for her career. She needs two more to pass Tammy Simms (1986-87) for ninth place all-time.

Redshirt junior Khadaijia Brooks led Marshall on the glass again with 10 boards, her fourth double-digit rebounding game of the season. Brooks also led with three steals. Freshman Kia Sivils tied a career-high with six boards. Sophomore Taylor Pearson and Mayo grabbed five rebounds each. The Herd outrebounded the Eagles 46-36.

Marshall shot 49.1 percent (27-of-55) from the field to go along with 50 percent from three.

The Herd hit seven three-pointers in the first quarter, and led 25-7 at the break. The Eagles turned up its offensive intensity in the second quarter and it looked like the Marshall lead had been cut down to four, until Porter drained a three from the corner while getting fouled with just one second left on the clock. Porter converted the free throw and the Herd went in at the half with an 8-point lead, 38-30.

Marshall began the third quarter on an 8-0 run to build the lead back to double-digits and never looked back. Coppin State pulled within 11 (68-57) with 7:24 to go in the game but then the Herd rolled off a 10-0 run to go back up by 21 with 4:27 remaining.

A three by junior Jovana Vucetic gave Marshall its largest lead of 26, with 1:23 to go.

Marshall heads back out on the road for a Tuesday night contest against the Wisconsin Badgers. Tipoff from the Kohl Center in Madison is set for 8 p.m. eastern.
