Let it Fly From Outside
Marshall's 16 made three-pointers against Coppin State were the most for the women's program since head coach Tony Kemper came to Marshall as an assistant coach for the 2012-13 season. The previous high over that span was 15 versus Maine Fort Kent on Dec. 20, 2016. In the win over Coppin State, sophomore Kristen Mayo set a career-high going 6-for-6 and establishing a new mark for the highest perfect score from beyond the arc in program history. Tamira Higgins went 5-for-5 against Chattanooga on Jan. 17, 1994. Senior Shayna Gore hit five three's and six different players hit one from outside. Junior Jovana Vucetic hit the Herd's final three of the day with 1:23 remaining in the game.
Scouting the Badgers
Wisconsin began the season with six-straight wins, and is now coming off back-to-back losses. The Badgers lost by one, 69-68, to Arkansas and then by seven, 60-53, to Duke. The contest with the Blue Devils started as a low scoring affair with Wisconsin leading 10-9 after the first. Duke then rolled off 21 points in the second while the Badgers managed just nine more, and Wisconsin went in at the half trailing 30-19. Both teams struggled offensively again in the third quarter as the Badgers managed to cut the lead down to nine, 38-29. In the fourth, both squads had a field day on offense as Wisconsin shot 80 percent (8-of-10) from the field, and Duke shot 69.2 percent (9-of-13) from the floor. Each team managed to hit just three, three-pointers apiece in the game, but Duke dominated in the paint (40-28) and outrebounded the Badgers by seven. Marsha Howard leads the Badgers with 13.9 points per game and 9.8 rebounds per game, and had a double-double (17 points and 10 boards) against Duke. Imani Lewis, who was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Nov. 26, averages 13.0 points per game and 8.4 boards per contest. Kendra Van Leeuwen is dishing out over five assists per contest. As a team, Wisconsin is shooting just under 40 percent (39.7) from the field and only 25.5 percent from three. The Badgers struggle from the free throw line converting just 52.9 percent.
Following the Tuesday night contest, the Herd heads back to the Cam Henderson Center for back-to-back games against Cleveland State (Dec. 8) and Tennessee State (Dec. 15).
