A LOOK BACK: VIRGINIA TECH AND PENN STATE
Stephanie Smith's straight-sets win over the top-ranked player in the Atlantic region, No. 34 Natalie Novotna of Virginia Tech, was the highlight performance in the Herd's loss to the Hokies. Playing shorthanded, the Herd was able to earn a doubles win at the No. 2 position, as Maddie Silver and Marija Bogicevic defeated Nika Kozar and Nina Sorkin, 7-5.
Silver earned her first win of the season in Marshall's 5-2 loss to Penn State. Silver used a tiebreaker to win the first set of her match and defeated Frederikke Svarre in straight sets, 7-6, 6-2. Bogicevic won her team-leading third match of the season, defeating Shannon Hanley in a third set tiebreaker, 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6).
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
Louisville is off to one of its best starts in program history. The Cardinals are 8-1 overall and 2-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference play after wins over Notre Dame and Pitt. The win over Notre Dame was the first win over the Fighting Irish in program history. Louisville's No. 1 doubles team of Abbie Pahz and Mariana Humberg have posted 13 consecutive wins at the top spot. Maya Smith has posted a 6-1 singles record in her debut campaign and Ariana Rodriguez has won four straight singles matches for the Cardinals.
