Herd Tennis Heads to Maryland for Two Matches

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - After picking up its first win of the season as part of a three-match homestand, the Marshall women's tennis team hits the road for its next four matches, beginning with trips to Navy Saturday and Maryland Sunday.
A note for fans attending Saturday's match at Navy, Greenbury Point Road, the only road to the Brigade Sports Complex, will be closed from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday due to a 5K race. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to the Brigade Sports Complex on Saturday.
A LOOK BACK: CINCINNATI, ODU AND VCU
Marshall earned its first win of the season, defeating Cincinnati to open a three-match homestand. Stephanie and Anna Smith won the final two singles matches to clinch the overall match win for the Herd. Marshall played multiple closely contested matches against ODU, but fell to the Monarchs, 7-0. Marija Bogicevic and Anna Smith won singles matches to tie the overall match against VCU, but the Herd fell in a 4-3 heartbreaker.
SCOUTING THE MIDSHIPMEN
Navy enters Saturday's match with a 12-4 overall record, though the Midshipmen lost their lone Patriot League match contested this season to Boston University. Navy brings a seven-match win streak into Saturday's match with the Herd and has not lost since a defeat to James Madison in early February. The Midshipmen are led by Amanda Cyr, who is 6-1 while playing at four different spots in the singles ladder. Claudia McKenzie and Emily Louie-Meadors are a perfect 8-0 in doubles, playing primarily at the No. 2 spot.
SCOUTING THE TERRAPINS
Maryland enters Sunday's match with a 4-5 record. The Terrapins will play West Virginia Saturday prior to its match with the Herd. Marlyland's match with Marshall is the last for the Terrapins before they begin Big Ten Conference play. The Terps are led by Milie Stretton, who is 5-1 at the No. 3 spot, while Eva Alexandrova is 5-2 at the top spot. Stretton and Alexandrova are 5-2 at the top doubles spot for Maryland.
