HUNTINGTON, W.Va. ââ'¬" For the second consecutive year, Marshall senior golfer Alex Weiss was named to the Conference USA Men's Golf All-Academic Team, the league announced Friday.

While maintaining a 4.0 GPA this semester and a major in business management, the senior also boasts the best stroke average on the team (70.44) in 23 rounds of play this season. His average is on pace to be the best single-season average in program history, as he enters the C-USA Championships.

"I'm really proud of Alex," head coach Matt Grobe said. "I'm happy to see him get rewarded with all of the hard work he has put in the classroom and on the golf course. He has done both of those things while he has also been a leader for us this year. I'm really excited to see what he will do in the conference tournament."

Weiss is the third MU golfer to repeat the honor. Brian Anania did so from 2013-14 and Bosten Miller did so from 2011-12.

This season, Weiss has two individual championships, six top five finishes and has finished in the top 25 in every tournament. The senior's best tournament was 205 at the Hummingbird Intercollegiate, while his best round was a career-best 65 in the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational.

The award bolsters an already impressive resume on and off the course, as he has been named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll in all four seasons at Marshall and has one C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal for achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or better.

Up next, the Thundering Herd will head to Texarkana, Ark., to compete in the C-USA Championship from April 22-24.
