TEXARKANA, Ark. - Senior Marshall men's golfer Alex Weiss finished final round of the Conference USA Championship with a 1-under 71 to give him a final score of 4-over 220 and a tie for 16th place at the Texarkana Country Club on Tuesday afternoon.

"Alex played a really good round today," head coach Matt Grobe said. "The conditions were tough and he put together a nice 1-under-par. He moved up the leaderboard and just missed the All-Tournament team by a couple of strokes.

"We are going to have to wait until May 2 and see if he makes it to the NCAA Regional Championships. He has had an incredible career at Marshall and I hope he gets a chance to play some more golf."

Weiss' final round was highlighted by three birdies on the day, which moved his total to 11. Those 11 birdies were good for fifth among all individuals. The senior continued to excel on Par 5s, as his average of 4.58 and final score of 5-under was the second-best among all competitors. Weiss also had 30 pars and improved each round of the tournament.

The tournament gave Weiss a season stroke average of 70.77, which is the best finish ever for a Marshall golfer in program history, beating the previous-best of Nathan Kerns during the 2012-13 season. The senior will look to earn an NCAA Regional bid for the first time since Kerns was selected in the 2012 season.

Overall, Marshall finished in 13th place after it posted a final score of 67-over 931, which wrapped up the team's season. The teams to advance to the championship and match play rounds were UAB, Middle Tennessee, Charlotte and Rice. Individually, the Owls' Mitchell Meissner beat out the Blazer's William Walker III by three strokes and a score of 5-under 211.
