PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Marshall softball team fell in a doubleheader at the Pitt Panthers Saturday evening 6-5 in game one and 8-0 in game two. The Thundering Herd returns to the field on Wednesday, May 2 at 3 p.m., with a single game at Louisville.

Marshall drops to 23-27-1 overall and Pitt improves to 28-16-1.

Game One: Pitt 6, Marshall 5
The Herd played well in game one but just could not hang on as the Panthers broke the 5-5 tie with a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh.

Senior Taylor McCord went 3-of-4 at the plate with her 17th double of the season and recorded her 26th career runner picked off. Junior Briana Daiss belted her 20th career home run in the third to give Marshall a 4-3 lead. Daiss is now tied with Marshall Athletics Hall of Famer Amanda Williams (2003-06) for 10th all-time on the Herd home run charts.

Freshman Wylie Glover recorded two hits and scored on a pinch hit single by fellow classmate Katie Adams in the sixth to tie the game at 5-5.

Pitt loaded the bases in the seventh with one out before getting the walk-off win on a fly ball to center allowing the runner at third to tag up and score.

Junior Abigail Tolbert got the start and pitched the first five innings allowing eight hits and five runs. Junior Ali Burdette pitched the final two innings, allowed two hits and the final run in the loss.

Game Two: Pitt 8, Marshall 0 (6 innings)
The Panthers dominated from the start of the second game scoring two runs each in the first and second. Leading 5-0, Pitt scored three more in the sixth to grab the run-rule victory.

Freshman Samantha Koehn along with seniors Madi Marshall and McCord all recorded one hit each for the Herd.

Sophomore Kailee Williamson started in the circle for Marshall and pitched the first 2.1 innings, allowing five runs. Freshman Tatum Ksiazek entered the game in the third and went the rest of the way. Ksiazek retired the first eight batters she faced before Pitt got rolling again in the sixth.

Marshall has one non-conference game remaining with the single game slate at Louisville on Wednesday. The Herd then returns to Dot Hicks Field on May 5-6 to finish out the regular season against Middle Tennessee.
