HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall men's soccer head coach Chris Grassie announced the Thundering Herd's 2018 schedule on Friday. Marshall will host nine home matches at Hoops Family Field including four Conference USA contests.

"I'm very happy to announce our 2018 schedule," coach Grassie said. "As always our C-USA schedule will be exciting and very competitive. Our out of conference schedule will be one of the most difficult we've had in many years. But, if you want to be the best you have to play and beat the best teams."

The Herd's non-conference opponents this season are Duquesne, Oakland, Ohio State, Dayton, Virginia, Butler, Fort Wayne, Northern Kentucky and Wright State. Virginia and Butler both participated in the 2017 NCAA men's soccer tournament. UVA entered as the No. 11 team in the country and lost 1-0 to Fordham in the second round. Butler defeated Lipscomb and VCU before being eliminated by Wake Forest in the third round.

"I think this season will be a great learning experience for a team that will be relatively new," coach Grassie said. "If we can get going quickly enough, we could be in for a very special season. I can't wait to get started in August, and I hope to see you at Hoops Family Field supporting us against Duquesne in our season opener."

Marshall opens the 2018 regular season against Duquesne on Friday, August 24 at 7 p.m., from Hoops Family Field. The Herd's other eight home matches are against Oakland (Aug. 27), FIU (Sept. 7), Old Dominion (Sept. 29), Fort Wayne (Oct. 9), Northern Kentucky (Oct. 16), Charlotte (Oct. 20), Wright State (Oct. 23) and Florida Atlantic (Nov. 3).

The match with Charlotte will also be Alumni Weekend.

The Herd finished the 2017 season 8-10-1 overall and 3-5-0 in Conference USA. Marshall entered the C-USA Tournament as the No. 6 seed and eliminated No. 3 seed Kentucky, 1-0, in the first round. The Herd fell in the second round to the eventual champions Old Dominion, 1-0, in the second round. Marshall returns a young exciting squad that played many meaningful minutes of game experience in 2017.
