West To Compete at NCAA East Preliminary Championships

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.-Sophomore Denisha West competes Saturday at 12:30 p.m. ET at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Championships in Tampa, Florida. West competes in the triple jump at the University of South Florida Track and Field Stadium.
The top individuals in each event in addition to the top individuals at the West Preliminary Championships in Sacramento, California qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon in early June. Jasia Richardson in the triple jump was the most recent Marshall NCAA Championship qualifier in 2014.
West qualified for the meet based on her personal record at the Cal Poly ShareSLO Invitational in March of 12.57 meters (41 feet, 3 inches). She enters the meet with the 46th best jump in the region.
West continues the strong history of Marshall athletes in the triple jump, as she is the sixth qualifier for the East Preliminaries since 2012 in the event (Jasia Richardson-2012, 2013, 2014; Crystal Walker-2013; Antonique Butler-2016, 2017).
West's competition time was moved up from 4:30 p.m. to potentially avoid inclement weather.
