Weiss Earns All-American Scholar Honor

Weiss was named a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-American

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall men's golfer Alex Weiss was named a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-American Scholar, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced Monday.

"I'm really proud of Alex," head coach Matt Grobe said. "It closes out a phenomenal senior year that saw him win awards on and off-the-course. When you succeed in those aspects, it shows how much of a leader you are to the team."

It is the second consecutive year that Weiss has earned the honor. Weiss concluded his career with a stroke average of 73.21 through 121 total rounds. The senior earned two individual honors and two runner-up trophies, while he had 11 top five finishes, 15 top 10 finishes and 19 top 15 finishes as an individual. His individual awards include being named to the Conference USA All-Conference second team and a two-time C-USA Golfer of the Week. Off the course, the Pickerington, Ohio, native was a two-time member of league's All-Academic team. This season, the senior had a stroke average of 71.24, which is the best in program history.

To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

Additionally the men's golf team earned a spot on the GCAA All-Academic Team for have a team GPA of over 3.0.
